On the weekend of April 13th through April 15th 2012, Reason to Give embarked on our biggest project to date, a home renovation project for the Singleton family. With the help of Home Depot management and staff and over 60 volunteers, we were able to give this loving family a beautiful almost new home. Home Depot generously donated paint, flooring, and new bathroom fixtures. Volunteers worked tirelessly for days to paint the entire home, replace moldy drywall, lay all new laminate flooring, gut and refinish the bathrooms, and give the kitchen a must needed face lift with all new appliances.
On the final day of the project, we moved in a house full of furniture generously donated by Reason to Give board member, Shannon Downey. The final product was a warm and inviting home fully furnished, with new dishes and cookware, bath towels and accessories, bedding, and window treatments all from generous donors. On Friday April 20th, the family invited friends and neighbors, along with volunteers, over to their new home for a house warming. The Singleton's couldn't be happier or more grateful to have the home they always dreamed of, and Reason to give couldn't be more excited to provide them with such an amazing transformation.
The project started as just a small idea and quickly ballooned into our greatest success to date thanks to the support of many local businesses and organizations and the work of volunteers. Home Depot generously donated over $15,000 in supplies and labor from stores all over Chicago. Coyote Logistics sent over 35 volunteers to help that weekend. Anderson Pest Solutions, our first sponsor on board, came out several times to rid the house of the infestation. The Rebuilding Exchange, Service Sanitation Inc, Knockbox, and Colorphonic also helped out with donations. A special thanks to Ken and Brody from the North Ave home Depot store for getting the project started, and to Angelo and Rik from the Lincoln Park store for the endless hours they put in.
